The Ambition Metric Builder is a powerful and flexible interface that lets you translate Salesforce activity into Ambition Metrics.
Objects and Fields
Salesforce uses Objects and Fields to store data. Standard Objects like Task, Lead and Opportunity are built into Salesforce whereas Custom Objects are created by your company.
Fields help describe an Object—the who, what, when, where, how. Standard Objects have Standard Fields, but Custom Fields can be created by your company.
When using the Metric Builder, you will select an Object and then work with it's Fields to track exactly what you want.
If you need access to a History Object, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org before building.
When creating a Metric, you will not be setting a time frame rather the logic defining when Salesforce activity should be translated into an Ambition Metric.
For instance, you will not create a Revenue MTD Metric; but rather you will create a Revenue Metric that is automatically aggregated into weeks and months within Ambition.
When building Metrics you only need to think in terms of, "what Salesforce activity should result in revenue being recognized inside Ambition".
Accessing the Metric Builder and Importing Objects
1. Open the left navigation and click Administration > Data > Integrations.
2. Click the Settings button to enter the Salesforce Integration.
3. Click on the Data Configuration tab.
4. If this is the first Metric your organization has built, you will see only the User Object on the Data Configuration page.
If Objects have been synced or Metrics built previously, you will be able to view the Objects and Fields that Ambition is querying and storing.
In the image above, the Account and Lead Objects have been synced with Ambition.
5. To sync additional Objects, click the green Sync Object button.
6. Select the Object you need to Import.
Optionally opt to sync Related fields by toggling Sync Related Fields to Yes.
Related Fields will sync the selected Object's fields and each parent Object's fields, necessary for building more complex Metrics.
Click the green Sync Object button.
7. Confirm the Object and Fields synced successfully.
8. Sync any additional Objects.
To Build Metrics:
1. When ready to begin building Metrics, click Add under the Metric Library tab.
2. Complete the Metric Builder Form.
Name: How the Metric will be labeled across the site. Visible to end Users.
Description: Brief description of what the Metric is tracking.
2. Object and Fields
Object: What Object is this Metric based on?
User Field: Who gets credit for this Metric?
Date Field: When should they get credit for this Metric?
All data will be keyed to a specific date, not a given week or month.
Metric Type: Should this Metric be Counted, Summed, or Averaged?
Display As: Is this metric a number, a financial amount, or a percentage?
4. Metric Filters
Click on the blue Add Filter button to optionally add logic.
Due to the automatic aggregation of data into week, month, quarter, year time frames, please note that you cannot filter off of a date field.
Field: Select a Field from the first dropdown.
Operator: Select a logic statement from the second dropdown.
Value: Select or Enter a value from the third dropdown. (Note: the Value field is Case-Sensitive)
If you add multiple filters notice that a Logic bar appears where you can add logic to your filters if required.
For example, if you have Filter 1 and Filter 2 your Logic bar can be:
1 AND 2 which means both Filter 1 and Filter 2 must be True
1 OR 2 which means either Filter 1 or Filter 2 must be True
3. When you are satisfied with your Metric click the blue Open Spot Checker button.
4. Select a date and Salesforce User to verify the Metric accuracy. Click the green Spot Check button.
5. Access the Metric's accuracy and adjust filters as needed.
Note: While discrepancies between the Spot Check value and your Source of Truth should be rare, they can occur.
6. When Ambition's total matches your Salesforce reporting, click the blue Close Spot Checker button.
7. To save your Metric, click the green Confirm and Save Changes button.
When you save a new metric for the first time we will automatically import seven days of historical data with values visible to the end-user within 5-10 minutes.
When you save an existing metric we will recompute all historical data to match your new logic. The amount of processing time is dependent on the amount of data.
Tips and Tricks
Filters are Case Sensitive
If you are wanting to track emails by filtering the Subject field you will probably want to look for both "Email" and "email".
18 Digit RecordId Required
There are certain cases where you might need to filter by a RecordId. You will need to use the 18-character ID, not the 15-character ID when doing so.
We will not provide conversions if sent differing currencies. The Field used to total any type of Revenue will need to be formatted in USD.
